Staging Connections goes BANG! KAPOW! BOOM! for
The Million Dollar Lunch

The 12th annual The Million Dollar Lunch was a major success with the Palladium at Crown Melbourne transformed into a vintage superhero extravaganza by leading AV and event services provider Staging Connections. The event raised more than $1.7 million for the Children’s Cancer Foundation.

Creating a Vintage Superhero theme, Staging Connections combined traditional superhero imagery with iconic Melbourne landmarks and laneways. The immersive environment included 20 custom designed printed comic book panels hanging around an ‘X’ shaped stage, 16 superhero light projections, four 9m x 3m screens jutting out from the stage with custom multimedia content, superhero lightbox table centrepieces and coloured chairs; all surrounded by dark draping.

Dean Placek, Senior Event Manager for Crown Melbourne at Staging Connections described how the team managed and designed the special gala from start to finish.

“Our team really let their imagination run wild to make the vintage superheroes theme come to life, embracing iconic heroes and integrating the event’s tag line ‘Meanwhile in Melbourne...’. From the audio visual, styling, design, multimedia content and video production, everything was tied together with a clear understanding of the objective to impress VIP guests and inspire donations to the very worthy cause of the Children's Cancer Foundation. 

“The result was a colourful, lively and above all, spectacularly entertaining event. We were very proud to be involved,” said Mr Placek.

Aileen Boyd-Squires, Chief Executive Officer of the Children’s Cancer Foundation commented on the vintage superhero themed event:

“The Million Dollar Lunch Committee challenged Staging Connections to deliver a unique and memorable theme for our annual fundraiser and they certainly delivered. This year’s theme aptly played tribute to our true superheroes, children with cancer. Our guests were absolutely thrilled – the content, projections and décor were beautifully integrated, and the vintage superhero and comic book feel was outstanding. The Children’s Cancer Foundation is sincerely grateful to Staging Connections for its commitment to delivering a phenomenal event theme, which set the scene to raise more than $1.7 million.”

Guests enjoyed an impressive menu with the entrée created by Sean Tan, Chef de Cuisine at Nobu, the main course by Crown Executive Chef Kelly Jackson, and the dessert by Crown Executive Pastry Chef Hari Unterrainer.

The Million Dollar Lunch attracted more than 550 of Australia’s most influential leaders including Chief Executive of the AFL Gillon McLachlan and Patron of the Foundation, Chairman Jeremy Smith, Treasurer Tim Pallas MP, Shadow Treasurer Michael O’Brien MP, business leaders including Heloise Pratt AM, Leigh Clifford AO and other VIPs including Ricky Ponting AO, Jane Kennedy and George Calombaris.

Since 2005, more than $15 million has been raised by The Million Dollar Lunch  community, allowing the Children’s Cancer Foundation to fund programs in therapeutic care, cancer research and family support.

Staging Connections has worked on The Million Dollar Lunch with the Children’s Cancer Foundation for nine events, providing the technical, audio visual, styling and design services for this prestigious fundraising gala lunch.
